Playbook / Stage 1–2
The first twenty seconds
Nothing in the call matters more than the opening. You are not earning a sale here — you are earning forty more seconds.
Permission opener (default)
Use on 8 out of 10 calls. Works best with contractor proprietors and older MSME owners who resent being 'pitched'.
Haan ji namaste sir, [NAME] bol raha hoon SysMarq se. Sir dekhiye, aapko kuch bechne ke liye phone nahi kiya hai — bas 40 second maangunga, de denge?
The disarm. Saying 'I'm not here to sell' out loud drops the wall almost every time. Then STOP. Wait for the yes. The silence is the whole technique.
Bahut shukriya sir. Sir aap HPCL-IOCL ka contract ka kaam dekhte hain na?
One easy yes. You are building agreement momentum before any pain.
Never say
- • "Kaise hain aap sir?" — instantly marks you as a telecaller.
- • "Main aapka thoda time le sakta hoon?" without saying how much. Unbounded time = no.
- • The word "software" or "ERP" in the first 20 seconds.
- • "AI" anywhere in the opener. It reads as a gimmick before value exists.
- • Your company's founding story. Nobody asked.
Pattern-interrupt opener
Use when the prospect is clearly busy, brusque, or has hung up on you before. Leads with their pain, not your name.
Sir ek seedhi si baat poochhun — HPCL ka jo PO aata hai na, uski saari line items aaj bhi haath se hi chadhani padti hain kya?
No pleasantries. A question about their reality, asked like a peer who already knows the answer. Their 'haan' is the opening.
Isiliye poochha sir — [NAME] bol raha hoon SysMarq se. Ek contractor ke yahan yahi kaam hafton chalta tha, ab aadhe ghante mein nipat jaata hai. Bas 40 second denge?
Only NOW do you name yourself. Curiosity is already open, so the introduction lands as an answer instead of an intrusion.
Never say
- • A rhetorical question they can answer 'nahi' to.
- • Two questions back to back. One interrupt only.
- • Any number you cannot back up in the demo.
Referral / social-proof opener
Strongest opener. Use whenever you have any real thread — same OMC, same city, a mutual contact, an association list.
Namaste sir, [NAME] bol raha hoon SysMarq se. Sir hum [REGION] mein HPCL ke contractors ke saath hi kaam karte hain — Friends Enterprises bhi humare saath hain, unka lagbhag 20 crore ka kaam humare system pe chalta hai.
Belonging before benefit. The buyer's first silent question is 'is this for people like me' — answer it in sentence one.
Isiliye aapko phone kiya sir. Bas 40 second, uske baad aap khud bata dijiyega aage baat karni hai ya nahi.
Give them the exit door. Offering the exit is what keeps them on the line.
Never say
- • A client name you do not have permission to use.
- • "Aapke competitor bhi use kar rahe hain" — in contracting this triggers suspicion, not FOMO.
Pain hook — Petroleum contractor
Stage 2. One hook only. Deliver it, then stay silent for two full seconds.
Sir hota kya hai na — site pe kaam to time pe khatam ho jaata hai, par MB sheet aur RA bill banne mein hi hafta-do hafta nikal jaata hai. Aur payment wahin se 60-90 din aage khisak jaata hai.
Late billing = late money. This is the single sharpest pain in petroleum contracting. Say it, then pause for 2 seconds.
Aur ek cheez jo sabko khatakti hai sir — contract ki kitni value bill ho chuki hai, exact kisi ko pata nahi hota. Pata tab chalta hai jab limit cross ho jaati hai aur bill wapas aa jaata hai.
Fear of a rejected bill and an awkward call with the OMC. Fear before gain, always.
Gatekeeper & voicemail
Tap to open. Calm and assumptive beats clever every time.
